As Merlehan Group continues to grow its legal services to both construction project owners and large contractors throughout Australia, an opportunity presents for you to make the move in your legal career that you have been waiting for.
Merlehan Group is a specialist law and business advisory firm in Australia, founded by a former top tier law firm partner, with particular speciality in the legal and commercial support to major construction and infrastructure projects throughout Australia. Our client base includes numerous ASX20 project owners and large contractors.
We are seeking a highly experienced front-end construction projects lawyer to join our firm.
The ideal candidate
You may currently be employed at a tier one law firm in Australia or a well-regarded construction law firm at Senior Associate, Special Counsel or Partner level.
You will be well regarded in the industry for your work, and consequently have and appreciate your own client-following, as well as enjoy cultivating new long-term client relationships.
You may be looking to join a progressive law firm that values your contribution and is willing to embrace a practice style with an overarching focus on producing sustainable value to the firm’s clients from your work and your expertise.
Professionally, you have deep expertise in the drafting and negotiation of suites of repeat use construction contracts and single use bespoke contracts of varying delivery and remuneration models (such as, D&C, EPC, Construct only, EPCM, alliance and incentivised target cost hybrids, ECI, BOO and BOOT).
Your experience has been developed over at least 10 years PAE and spans the negotiation and drafting of bespoke suites of contracts as well as major standard form contracts with detailed knowledge of each form (AS, FIDIC, ABIC, GC21, NEC).
You may have experience in PPP project delivery documentation preparation, though this is not essential. You may also have experience advising mining and oil and gas clients in the delivery of their major projects, which would be well regarded.
Personally, you are driven by the skill of producing excellent quality legal documentation responsive to project risks and client needs, delivering insightful legal advice and facilitating adept legal risk management outcomes for your clients. You demonstrate acute attention to detail.
You are motivated by the law as a profession. You role model the qualities and attributes of trust, rapport, empathy and respect in your dealings with clients and colleagues. You are more than likely less interested in the ‘business’ of large law firms and more interested in doing interesting work for great clients with quality team members.
You enjoy mentoring talented junior lawyers and seeing them develop into outstanding professional advisors, and people.
You would be energised by the prospect of joining a specialist firm of top tier collegiate legal talent mutually focused on delivering uncompromising excellence in the law, with a client and personal focus, and one that already enjoys a ‘big firm’ blue-chip client base.
You would be located in Brisbane or alternatively may reside in Sydney or Melbourne and be willing to work from offices there.
A remuneration package that is transparent, fair and commensurate with the value you add, and experience you offer will be negotiated.
